Our MD co-presents at a Seminar on Key Cost & Contract Challenges at the Cairo Regional Centre for Commercial & International Arbitration
09 April 2019
Following the successful seminar hosted at VMC's headquarters in Cairo and due to high demand, VMC's Managing Director, Ayman El-Ghazzawi, was invited to co-present with Dr Waleed El-Nemr, BSc MSc LLM PHD FCIArb, at the Cairo Regional Centre for Commercial & International Arbitration.
The seminar titled Cost & Contract Challenges in the Egyptian Construction Industry addressed key issues such as:
Missing BOQ items in re-measurable contracts,
Validity of BOQ rates after expiry of the original contract duration, and
Preliminaries after contract duration - extend or continue to pay?
The event was sponsored by the Chartered Institure of Arbitrators (Egypt), and attracted engineers, project manager, cost managers and lawyers working for various contractor and consultant organisations.
The seminar tackled the key issues form a contractual and cost/commercial perspective, with Dr Waleed El-Nemr addressing the former using FIDIC form of contract as a reference, while the latter was assessed by Ayman El-Ghazzawi using UK best practice as a reference, exploring RICS Guidance, the JCT form of contract and the NEC form of contract.
The session was split into two portions, with the first being a presentation by El-Nemr and El-Ghazzawi, and the second part of the event geared around a group discussion with attendees. The Q&A and discussion was planned for one hour, but extended to three hours thanks to the deep interest and exciting participation by the attendees.
The event proved to be a great success, with tickets sold out weeks before the event. VMC look forward to many more events in collaboration with Dr El-Nemr where the industry practitioners can be gathered under one roof to share knowledge and lessons learned.
